Ack, with a last minute stop at Green Apple, I bought myself more X-mas gifts:
  • Bitch: Feminist Response to Pop Culture: The zine turned Ms. Magazine for the geeky girls. I had to get it cuz the cover plug highlights Lynda Barry, bell hooks and the Guerrilla Girls!
  • The Making of Tank Girl: Back when I rented videos from Leather Tongue on $.99 day, this movie took me by pleasant surprise. Plus, it's got my hussler, Ice-T in it!
  • Radios: Short Takes on Life and Culture: Two page ideas that paint pictures as vividly as a full half-hour of The Wonder Years.
  • We the Media: A Citizens' Guide to Fighting for Media Democracy: A cute zine-type book I used to see around the Stop AIDS office.
  • Rich Media, Poor Democracy: Communication Politics in Dubious Times: A recommendation by Herman Gray. The main point is "the contradiction between a for-profit, highly concentrated, advertising-saturated, corporate media system and the communication requirements of a democratic society."
  • No Logo: Taking Aim at the Brand Bullies: another Herman Gray recommendation, "hinged on a simple hypothesis: that as more people discover the brand-name secrets of the global logo web, their outrage will fuel the next big political movement, a vast wave of opposition squarely targeting transnational corporations, particulary those with very high name-brand recognition."
