Our Stay
Well, we are definitely doing the high road because of the ease using a travel agent afforded us. Fortunately, it's not going to break the bank.

Japan Neighborhoods
So we're staying in Shinjuku and folks say we should have fun in Harajuku and that the parties will be in Roppongi. I'm going to this source to learn about all the different neighborhoods.

Narita
There's not much time to explore Tokyo since the express train stops running at midnight and the last train back to Narita is at 8 p.m., but I found this resource of stuff to do in Narita. It's also got a couple pages of night life posted by some airline attendents!

Time
* Japan time
* Sri Lanka time
* San Francisco time

I think this means it's an 11(!) hour flight to Japan and a 7 hour flight to Sri Lanka! Guess I'll get some reading done...

Weather
Look at the difference between say Colombo and Nuwara Eliya! It's as cold up that Hill Country as in Japan!

At least in Kandy it's a warm rain.

Typhoid
So when I went to the travel clinic, they convinced me to take oral typhoid. I think the benefits had something to do with it lasting longer (5 years).

But gosh dang! It's horrible. You eat a pill every other day on an empty stomach. I've been doing it in the middle of the night (like 3 a.m.). This morning, I woke with the WORST tummy ache due to gas in my stomach. I think I ate the pill too early (around midnight when dinner was at 7). I wish I took the shot so it was over with quicker instead of this dragged out 8 days of discomfort!

Travel Agents
I found this page with emails for Sri Lankan travel agents that might help us out!

Packtowl
REI opened in San Francisco and I found things for the trip I didn't even KNOW I needed. Like this packtowel. It's thin but absorbant so I don't need to back a bulky beach towel!

Drivers
OK, so I said I take on finding a driver for us. It's the way to travel in Sri Lanka. So far, this is my only resource. 3X as much as Nayomi said to pay, but it's all I'm finding.

Travel Advice
"Postcards" of advice from the Lonely Planet site.

Advice of note:

There is also a forum where you can ask questions. Reading through it, I found advice about what's going on for New Year's, where to go in the Hill Country, one traveller's detailed experience, feedback on where to stay the first night and how to hire a driver, and more feedback on a Hill country trip, and someone's trip and driver info.
